I'm Planning for My Future! T-Shirts to Promote Information Family Planning Information Among Adolescents

December 21, 2014

SAVIC successfully printed 70 t-shirts to spread the message of Sexual & Reproductive Health to adolescents and community members at large. In front, the t-shirt reads: I'm Planning for my Future. This message reminds us all of the freedom we need to give to adolescents to plan for their future. This includes giving adolescents a free choice to continue education out of marriage and free from unintended pregnancies.
On the back, the t-shirt reads: "Access to Family Planning can Help Adolescents Achieve their Goals". Clear. True.
Family Planning Can help Adolescents achieve their goals!

SAVIC: Promoting Health Care and Education for the Displaced!

Promoting Health Care and Education for the Displaced!
www.savicafrica.org
SAVIC started in 2010, with a dream to achieve an African society where everyone can influence decisions that affect their holistic health and which actively participate in the social, economic, political and cultural advancement of their communities.  SAVIC is a local non-profit organization based in the Kakuma refugee camp, a multinational settlement hosting more than 180,000 refugees from 14 countries in the world. SAVIC was founded by a group of displaced people, with an aim to show our voluntary support in accompanying the refugee community towards sustainable socio-economic development and reinforcing education, health care and refugee’ human rights. The experiences that most displaced people, especially refugees live are inhuman and challenging, with women and girls being the most affected. Many women and adolescent girls have been subject to sexual violence, physical torture, and denial from their basic human rights in their countries of origin. In many warring countries, young children and youth are forced to become soldiers and fight with no idea of what they are fighting for. Educational infrastructures are destroyed, making it a near-impossible dream for children and young adults to achieve their potentials. Medical services are poor in most war-affected settings, leading to the death of many victims. The living conditions are hard, and many girls are at risk due to the increased gender-based discrimination, coercion, violence and other traditional practices.
SAVIC non-profit is based in Kakuma refugee camp, a remote place certainly at the end of the world. We thought a need to have “heroes” who can make the voices of young people heard. The different institutions serving the refugees, including the Government of Kenya, UNHCR, WFP, and implementing NGOs are doing their best to cover the basics human needs at least to sustain the survival of people, giving food, shelter, water and sanitation, medical services, and primary education high priority.
